Solar Shades
Our collections of high-performance solar shades
Custom Blinds Online.ca offers you top-quality shades in three collections that feature robust mechanisms and exceptional fabric quality. All components are manufactured in Canada and approved by architects for use in new buildings and residential projects.
A brief explanation of the solar shades
Solar shades are made of polyester and PVC, and have different levels of openness with 1%, 3%, or 5%, 1% being the most tightly woven fabric. Solar shades protect you against UV and IR. Dark shades allow you to see better outside, but the lighter ones provide better sun protection and diffuse light in the room.
Solar shades are recommended for use in the living room, kitchen, and solarium.
Other names for solar shades
Solar shades are also known under names such as Sheerweave, TexScreen, solar roller blinds, and solar roller shade.

How to measure your blinds

Single window, inner installation (Fig. 1 below).
This type of installation requires the frame to have a clearance of 1½″ in depth with no obstacles all the way to the bottom of the frame. The width measurement should only be taken at the top of the frame as these shades leave a clearance of about ½″ on each side of the shades when rolled down.
It is very important to measure the height at three different points, as shown in Fig. 1 below, and keep the shortest measurement. The banded shades are manufactured so as to leave a clearance of ⅛″ at the bottom of the frame when the bands are aligned to provide privacy. The clearance gap is a little wider when the bands are aligned to let you to see outside.
Single window, outer installation (Fig. 2 below).
If you want the cassette to be the same width as the window frame, simply measure the outer width of the frame. If you want the shades to completely cover the window frame, add 2″ to the measurement.
As for height, there are two options. If the cassette is mounted directly on the frame, measure the outer height of the frame. If the cassette is mounted above the frame, add 3″ to the measurement.
